The goal of the 3D reinforcement project was to extend an existing framework that allowed for planar reinforcement. Providing for reinforcement that is multiplanar and does not self intersect proved to be challenging as it could not conflict with the existing framework. 
Designing for this feature proved successful with a tight knit team that had been together for several releases. This allowed for the development team to be an integral part of the research and user evaluations.
